Education sector on verge of change?

Now a days every kid is learning through the digital platforms. Some are using the online platforms or others are sending the pre-recorded videos. Teachers are using the digital boards or annotations instead of chalk and dusters. Everyone is missing the charming, energetic and enthusiastic classroom environment. Teachers are trying their best to recreate the same with help of the lots of new Softwares and changing the delivery methods. One need to understand that children and their teachers are facing such transformation for first time in their life due to external sudden changes. Being an educator, I can say both generations are trying their best to reap optimum benefits of education through online portals. Both deserve a good amount of appreciation.
Everybody is talking about the economic, environmental reforms etc. This situation may giving hint to start with the real educational reforms for preparing our next generation to face the new normal or probably the changed world when this new normal will be vanished. We should not be tempted to express our dynamic views on “EDUCATION” without analysing the data or learning the aspects of the situation. I have downloaded few datasets from the “World Bank” for understanding the position of India with the records maintained.

A) Population Age composition

It is observed that in the last year, 67% of the population belong to the age group of 15 – 64 year. We are known as youngest country is world, taking efforts to increase the employment rate on the other hand. According to the dataset, growth rate of population from 2000 to 2019 is 1.4%. It can be concluded that after 30 years from now, probably we will be known as oldest country in the world. As the nation’s maximum population will be dependent on the 27% to 30% young population.

If we want India as rich and happy country by 2050, this is the good time to revolutionize the education system. We want such a generation which will handle industries, business very efficiently & will accept the responsibility towards the society proactively without making it as mandatory by any law.
We need strong innovative & caring approach towards the creating happy and wealthy India. There is need to imbibe the skills like cooperation, sharing the information for getting better results, caring and brainstorming since childhood for surviving in the age of AI(Artificial Intelligence).
The upcoming generations has to deal with senior people more than ever. Both generations need to develop the skills like acceptance, adaptability and stress management. We need such an education system which will teach the ways of achieving progression by balancing the materialistic and spiritual approach.

B)  Employment by Sector

It can be seen that agriculture sector is playing a dominant role for both the genders. One Sanskrit Shlok (verse) underlines the importance of farming by stating that, “Even if you have all the wealth in this world, still you will be dependent on the “Farmer” for food”.
Farming sector will be debt free, and prosperous when commerce, management, engineering and farming stream will launch courses in collaboration assuring the new avenues of good jobs and professionalism in the sector. This will result in the changing the farming sector into a very respectable and wealthy profession.

C) Mastering the subjects.

In India, 40.08% students are enrolled for Art/Humanities/Social Sciences, while maximum percentage of Ph.D. and Post-graduation enrolment is seen for Engineering, Technology & science. There is need to motivate the students and education lovers to pursue higher education in other streams as well.
In the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cross functional knowledge will be the additional advantage for the new generation. Students should be encouraged to attain the dual courses and degree for the versatile knowledge. It is observed that most of the students don’t continue the education after getting a single degree or masters due to the financial weakness. There is need to establish scholarships for those who want to restart the education after the gap of few years due to family responsibilities or any other reason.
D) Learn, Unlearn and Relearn
In last week, one of speaker from webinar puts a very good concept of accepting the “Google as co-teacher than just a search engine”. Google is a very powerful tool who help the teachers, students to understand the subject in greater detail. Techers are requested to use the co-teacher to deliver the subjects in more interesting and efficient way. New Softwares, educational tools will also help to minimise the stress on managing the digital education system.
Technology is upgrading day by day resulting into the change in the employment avenues as well. For example, if the delivery boy is replaced by introduction of drones, then he may have to get the training to be suitable for the new profile of controlling the drone. In the era of AI, such changes are expected at high frequency, resulting into highlighting the significance of continuous learning. Continuous learning requires the financial freedom, acceptance & mental adaptability by the labour force. There is need to set up the micro training canters along with the dedicated funds for such kind of training covering all the streams from agriculture to science.
Being a teacher, I am very optimistic about the new era of educational reforms through collaboration and cooperation. This reforms will help the teachers and students to create a good generation of healthy, wealthy and happy India. I am concluding this blog by quoting the few lines of my favourite poem by Paul King.
“Unfolding the new skills many joys shall be mine,
Away the dull rust let me shine…………………………………”
